Feeding the Community
Vedanta Soup Kitchen provides free meals and grocery hampers to people in need. We also usually have free bread and fresh fruit/vegetables, depending on availability.
The soup kitchen is run solely by an amazing team of volunteers – we have no paid staff. Funds are raised through events and donations, to buy cooking ingredients, to purchase groceries for hampers and to pay the utility costs associated with the kitchen like gas, electricity and water. We receive no ongoing government funding.
Proceeds from a volunteer-run cafe – Maa Sarada’s Kitchen – that serves south indian meals at very reasonable prices on Saturdays from 10am to 1pm also support the Vedanta Soup Kitchen free food program.

We are seeking volunteers to help with cooking, cleaning, preparation of hampers, distribution of food and other kitchen associated tasks for our Friday Soup Kitchen. Duties may include preparing meals, chopping vegetables, cleaning up post work, assisting in distribution and making up of food hampers. We ask for a minimum commitment of 1 hour and that you join us at least once in a month.
